Spring Onions
Large, shallot-like onions with papery thin translucent layers. The longer you look at these, the more colors appear in the shadows of the layers. In painting white, I add all kinds of colors to create the shadows– blues, siennas, greens, for example, - rather than gray which can dull it down. Traditional botanical illustrations often included roots and root systems, as references for Medieval physicians and pharmacists in studying plants for medicinal purposes.
All prints are artist signed, limited edition giclee' prints, produced with archival inks on archival (museum quality) paper.
